Assuming you start work at age 25 with an annual salary of $35,000 only and project yourself to retire at age 60,

your life is worth in excess of $1.2 million!

Calculation is based on earning the same amount for the rest of your life, which I am sure nobody wants to be in that kind of situation!

How much are you insured for?

In my line of work...

...How much is enough?

Assuming a fresh grad earns $2,500 a month, being self employed means you lose out 14.5% of employer's contribution to your CPF, which means I must earn $2,950 approx to be on par.

On a desk bound job, transport are kept minimal. Being a outdoor salesman, travelling by public transport will set you back by at least $300 a month, assuming most trips are by bus and train, or $1,200 if you drive. Entertainment expenses should be another $150 to $1,000 depending on the scale of business you do.

I should go out and take a desk bound job if I am not drawing $3,400 a month.

If you are taking home $2,400 per month, assuming you only save in a bank (other than spending money) and know of no other financial instruments to invest in,

after working for a year, you should already have at least $10,000 in the bank. This should serve as your emergency fund.

The purpose of working is to retire one day. Which day will it be for you?

It doesn't make sense to buy a car if you are not earning at least $3,500 a month.

Call me at 9637 0459 if you don't agree or if you wish to set an appointment for financial planning.

I will show you why.

When I talk to people verbally about financial planning, they love to give the arrogant look and say they know more than you.

Then given the chance to present to them, the face becomes filled with question marks.

Why am I not surprised?
